Introduction: Sexual assault is any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the consent of the recipient. Approximately 1 in 5 women report experiencing sexual assault during their lifetime. Previous research reveals that stronger beliefs in traditional masculine roles are associated with greater acceptance of rape myths. Also, acceptance of traditional masculine roles is associated with negative perceptions of sexual assault victims. Our study examines the themes associated with people’s responses to firsthand accounts of sexual assault perpetration.
